Former PepsiCo exec to take helm at Seventh Generation | Grist

This is an interesting article on 7th Generation. A former PepsiCo exec is taking over the reigns which actually frightens me a bit. We'll see if they continue to be a leader in the green business space or if this guy takes them in a more mainstream direction.

One of the comments that struck me from the article is this quote from Hollendar (he is referring to the difficulties for recycles paper products):

"the government—for the last year in which a calculation was made—spent a billion dollars subsidizing the virgin timber industry by building roads and allowing that timber to be cut at below-market prices. What that does is it artificially makes recycled fiber more expensive."

It's flabergasting to me that the government continues to use practices that make it difficult for competing green businesses. I can't even count the number of times I've heard people say that recycling doesn't make sense because it is more expensive than using virgin products, but you know that isn't really true.
