Work Meetings, yeehaa!
So the great and powerful TP has decreed and edict across work-land that every sing glorious day in the AM we shall convene around the mighty round table to "triage" all the Oracle Applications go-live issues!
Value add for Ryan: I got a laugh out of Spastic Lisa from her shouting "24 bye Seven" no less than 11 times.
Number of issues "triaged": 0
Other Things
Well, hiking and backpacking season is almost here and LP and I have already planned several excursions into the great Washington wilderness. Look for posting and photos to come! Other than that we are pretty quiet here!
Cheers and be Green!

Salt Lake Tribune - LDS Church supports constitutional amendment for marriage
Yep here we go. More hate. More discrimination. Less acceptance of others.
It is important that we fight this. We need to make sure that they know we won't lie down. We have separation of church and state in this country.
And all this from a church that would still condone polygamy if the US allowed it.

I am all for laws that prohibit using a cell phone without a hands free set. Almost everyone that runs a stop sign or almost hits a pedestrian on my way to and from work is on a cell phone.

It's time I actually make an effort here.
I guess it is time I do an entry that isn't based on the news articles I've been posting. There isn't a whole lot going on in my world these days, so this will be brief.
Work Update
Not a whole lot has changed at work. New boss, a little new work and I am learning a couple new, but minor things. Still, I wouldn't say I have reached the nirvana of my career. However, I am going to relish the good things about my job and not worry about the bad.
Personal Update
So LP and I kicked Sprint to the curb and invested in a T-Mobile family plan. We did a pile of research and asked around and it seems Verizon and T-Mobile are the least evil choices for a cell-plan. Together we'll be paying roughly the same as one of our old plans. I really wanted to kick my cell-phone to the curb entirely, but these damn things are as addicting as heroin and tobacco combined and I just don't know if I will be able to call a cab from a pay phone anymore...
Environment Update
We finally have the Smart here in Seattle! LP and I are going to go test drive them. Actually she might not know that, but we are. They are REALLY expensive here though and it seems as though that will shoot them in the foot. Soon the same dealer will have the Zebra and the Obvio. More happy environmentally happy cars.
Ryan's Traffic Solution Plan
There was a Brazilian official in Seattle this week talking about how he led a plan in to install express busses in a couple large Brazilian cities. It sounds like a fantastic plan. In effect they just closed off highway lanes to car traffic and dedicated it to busses. Then they created little ticket kiosks so passengers could buy the tickets before entering the bus. Lastly they did away with routes and just ran buses up and down (and across) major streets. People could just go to the main street and hop on the next bus. It seems so easy. Seattle should do this.
This idea got me to thinking about more solutions like that. I think we could apply the same principle to bike lanes and routes. Why not carve our certain lanes on our freeways and highways for bike ONLY traffic. Not only would it be nice for our completely non-polluting bikers, but us fat American's might shed a few pounds and save more money for healthcare.
We could even take it one step further. We could allow motorized vehicles 75cc or less on the paths. They could coincide nicely with the bikes and have a speed limit of 25mph.
What do you think?
My Idea's for the Alaskan Way Viaduct
For those of you outside of Seattle this might not make much sense, but we have an OLD double-decker freeway between downtown Seattle and the waterfront. This ugly freeway pretty much blocks out the view from downtown to the water and vice-versa.
This freeway was damaged in the Nisqually earthquake and needs to be replaced. All you folks in the Bay Area can relate since this freeway was built at the same time and by the same contractor as the Cypress freeway in Oakland and the Embarcadero in SF. The city/state etc., has proposed 3 different methods.
Ok, that is enough ranting. Live green and in peace and get our of your car and walk!

- Replace the Viaduct: I hate this idea, it is ugly and although it is cheaper than a tunnel it is not that cheap and I think that it is high time Seattle invested in something not so cheap.
- Did a tunnel: This is a great idea on paper and if we have to have a freeway through here we might as well bury it. Although this solution is expensive the returns on the value of our waterfront should be enormous.
- Nothing at all: In this case we would have nothing. I am not sure this is bad. Most of the traffic on 99 in local, and this would actually calm traffic down. This solution also improves the waterfront. Hmmm...
- Put the new freeway in a trench: What a great idea, cheaper than a tunnel almost the same effect. Just construct a few car and many pedestrian bridges across the tunnel. The tunnel could also include rail, bike or express bus lanes.
- Tear down the viaduct and save the money for public transportation: It seems like cars are always getting most of the transit dollars. Why don't we take the money we'd spend on the viaduct replacement and invest it in the waterfront streetcar. We could extent it south to SODO or more and North to Ballard. Then we'd relieve a lot of traffic from the viaduct area.
Ok, that is enough ranting. Live green and in peace and get our of your car and walk!

Every morning I look at the news before I do anything else and it seems like every day there is an article about how Bush lied, F'd up or just plain was an idiot. For those 1 or 2 people who actually read my blog and the 1 person per month that stumbles across my blog, I've decided to blog these news articles. Happy Reading!

Huh? I can't believe it. Of course all the automakers are absent. But hey, if Wal-Mart does it then it must be cool. C'mon all you other companies jump on the bandwagon!
